A New York Man’s Death Probed As Possible Hate Crime

A 35-year-old New York man died this week after a battle outdoors a housing complicated and authorities are probing his dying as a potential hate crime.

Michael Jones, who was recognized to family and friends as Chris, was reportedly concerned a battle on Tuesday night time in Mount Vernon, NY, which is a suburb of New York Metropolis, when he fell or was pushed to the bottom, hitting his head on the curb. Jones later died at a neighborhood hospital.

Local media outlets that spoke to sources on the scene after the assault are reporting that Jones could have been focused due to his sexual orientation.

After the assault, Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas stated in an announcement: “Those who search to assault individuals to instill concern in communities on account of race, faith, or sexual orientation are cowards and can face justice. Mount Vernon is a metropolis of inclusion and despicable acts of intimidation is not going to be tolerated.”

Thomas has instructed the Mount Vernon police to work with the FBI and the New York State Police Hate Crimes Process Pressure to research Jones’ dying.

Police are but to have verify that Jones’ dying was the results of an assault motivated by discrimination. “Detectives are investigating and we’re taking a look at all avenues primarily based on any statements that our detectives are receiving,” Performing Police Commissioner Shawn Harris stated a press convention on Thursday.

Harris stated throughout the press convention that sources instructed police that Jones was concerned in a unique altercation final week. As of Friday morning, police stated that no suspects have been taken into custody in reference to Jones’ dying.
